During the late 1970s, I became interested in how spectral energy could be combined to create an array of different colors. I began to experiment with various materials, plastic and glass, that could be combined as the essence for experiencing a multitude of pure color sensations. In 1981 Ocean Spray Cranberry gave me the opportunity to build a Work of Art on the outside of their plant in Sulfur Springs, Texas, using some of this experimental technology. The project was successfully tested; see attached diagrams, using spectral combinations of light to produce hundreds of colors. The final project was never materialized because of budget reductions. However, this prototype, which was tested on site was declared a success and does serve as a prototype for the Two Trees project, using transparent glass.
